Welcome to MI-ACRE! We're a team of University of Michigan addiction researchers and clinicians focused on embracing cutting-edge research and innovative evidence-based practices to drive continuous improvement in addiction prevention, care, training and education. MI-ACRE is part of the University of Michigan Addiction Center in the Department of Psychiatry at Michigan Medicine.
We're currently accepting applications for our 2026 MI-ACRE Advancing Addiction Care Award reflecting MI-ACRE’s ongoing commitment to community building and support of impactful addiction work!
Award Amount: Up to $2,000 per recipient
Award Recipients: Up to 3 recipients awarded per calendar year

MI-ACRE's Director of Clinical Research, Anne Fernandez, PhD, invites you to the MacDonell Lecture featuring Katie Witkiewitz, PhD and Vita McCabe, MD, MHSA!
Dr. Witkiewitz is a clinical psychologist and nationally recognized clinician-researcher in behavioral alcohol treatment, non-abstinent recovery, harm reduction, and mechanisms of behavior change.
Dr. McCabe, Director of UMATS, will share an overview of addiction treatment services at the University of Michigan and ongoing efforts to expand access to care.
The MacDonell Lecture is a special Psychiatry Department Grand Rounds dedicated to advancing alcohol-treatment education and sharing evidence-based knowledge across the health system.
Clinicians, researchers, and trainees are welcome, with a special invitation to learners in medicine and other clinical disciplines as we work to connect students across the Medical School and related departments.

Topic: Perioperative Alcohol Use Disorder: Screening and Treatment Strategies

Dr. Rolfzen will facilitate a collaborative discussion regarding perioperative alcohol use, including how providers can bridge the addiction treatment gap by transforming the surgical admission into a critical platform for precision screening and evidence-based alcohol intervention.
