Student Coordinators

Jess Yan

  • Jess (she/her/hers) is a first-year master’s student in the School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) studying Environmental Justice.

  • Jess received her B.S. at the University of Michigan in 2019 where she studied Sociology and Ecology, Evolution, and Biodiversity (EEB).

  • Jess identifies as a queer second-generation Chinese American woman. She is from the Metro Detroit area, and currently living in Southfield, MI with her partner and 3 cats.

Victoria Minka

  • Victoria/Viktorija (she/her/hers) is a third-year student from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Victoria is one of our MESA Student Coordinators for Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month this year.

  • She is studying Community & Global Public Health through the School of Public Health with minors in A/PIA Studies and Afroamerican and African Studies (AAS). Outside of her classes, Victoria is involved in the United Asian American Organizations (UAAO), the Roosevelt Institute, and was formerly a Resident Advisor.

  • In her free time, Victoria loves sitting in nature, visiting cafes/boba shops with her friends, and tending to her plant babies.

Selina Lu

  • Hi everyone! My name is Selina Lu (she/her/hers) and I am a sophomore majoring in Biology, Health, and Society. I am from Troy, MI, and I identify as a Chinese American.

  • My favorite part of AA&PI Heritage Month is getting to work with other passionate and motivated board members to celebrate and represent AA&PI students in our community!

Madeline Chau

  • My name is Maddie Chau (she/her), and I'm a sophomore majoring in English and minoring in political science.

  • My favorite part about planning heritage month is educating myself on different AA & PI cultures that have largely been ignored by my classes. Also, I love how the planning committee is full of such kind, supportive people :)

Zoe Hu

  • My name is Zoe Hu (any pronouns), I'm a first-year student in Material Science considering a minor in International Studies.

  • My favorite part about AA&PI Heritage Month is the platform to celebrate often-overlooked diversity in our community :)

Nicole Tooley

  • Hi! I’m Nicole (she/her) and am a second year student majoring in English.

  • My favorite part of working on the programming subcommittee for Heritage Month has been getting to connect with really amazing AA&PI artists, educators, and activists. I’ve also loved working with and learning from others on the committee to help plan this month!

Yoon Kim

  • Hi! My name is Yoon Kim (she/her pronouns) and I'm a current sophomore from the Chicago suburbs.

  • My favorite part about planning heritage month has been working & growing with an incredible team, as well as learning what it means to responsibly and respectfully include all voices of the AA&PI community.

  • I like to cook, write, collect vinyl records, and shoot film photography in my free time.

Gina Liu

  • Hi! I’m Gina (she/her). I’m a sophomore with an undecided major and a minor in Urban Studies. This is my first time being on the Heritage Month planning committee and I am uber-excited to be a part of the programming sub-committee to continually learn about new topics in the Asian American diaspora.

  • I also am a fellow for Michigan Student Power and love organizing with other local coalitions! I enjoy cooking and playing tennis in my free time.

Gray Snyder

  • Hi everyone, my name is Gray (she/her), I am a Sophomore majoring in Art and Design.

  • My favorite part about working on Heritage Month is meeting with AA&PI faculty and staff and discussing UofM’s counter histories.

  • In my free time you can find me playing board games with my housemates.

Liana Lau

  • Hello, my name is Liana (she/her), and I’m a freshman majoring in Business. I’m excited to be a part of the Heritage Month committee this year and create ways to engage with and celebrate the vast diversity found within the AA&PI community!

Anna Dang

  • My name is Anna (she/her), and I am a senior double majoring in American Culture with the Ethnic Studies sub-major and Film, Television, and Media.

  • My favorite part about being on the AA&PI Heritage Month planning committee is being able to celebrate the wonderful communities that we have on campus.

  • In my free time, you can find me fishkeeping and listening to showtunes!

Anooshka Gupta

  • My name is Anooshka (she/her), and I am a senior double majoring in Communication and Media and Sociology and minoring in Intergroup Relations.

  • My favourite part about being on the AA&PI Heritage Month planning committee is our ability to build community and to plan numerous events celebrating the diverse experiences in our communities!
