Social Work Fellow
A Post-doc in Psychology
The following processes will take several months to complete. We ask that you begin them three months before your tentative start date. For trainees starting in the fall, that means June. For those starting in January/February, that means October/November.
Applying for a License
You will need to be licensed to work in Michigan.
Click this link if you need a Social Work License.
Click this link if you need a Psychology License.
For Psych Post-docs:
In order to accrue hours toward full licensure as a psychologist in Michigan, you MUST hold this license: Psychologist – Doctoral Educational Limited License. However, if you anticipate that your doctoral degree will not be officially conferred by August 1, in order to allow time for processing of your fellowship license, it is unlikely that the Michigan Board of Psychology Licensing will be able to process your application in enough time to begin clinical work at MARI in early September.
In this case, we will ask that you first apply for a Psychologist – Doctoral Temporary Educational Limited License to cover you initially, and then apply ASAP after you have your diploma, for the Psychologist – Doctoral Educational Limited License. We realize that applying in this 2-part manner is more costly in time and money, but you will need some license in hand by the end of the first week of September in order to see clients, and you will need the Doctoral Educational Limited license specifically to accrue fellowship hours toward full licensure later.
Please feel free to contact the training director, Angela Fish, if you would like to discuss whether you can simply apply for the Doctoral Educational Limited license, or whether the timing of your degree conferral may require you to apply for the Doctoral TEMPORARY Educational Limited license first, and then the Doctoral Educational Limited license after your degree is conferred.
Fees vary, depending on your background and field, but typically range between $90 and $130. Trainees are responsible for these fees.
