To be eligible for all financial aid and scholarships that come from the University you must submit the CSS Profile and FAFSA. For details on the CSS Profile and FAFSA visit the Office of Financial Aid. If you have questions about financial aid you can contact the Transfer Financial Aid Counselors: Ashley Popp (poppa@umich.edu).
After you are admitted, Undergraduate Admissions will evaluate your credits and email you a Transfer Credit Student Summary Report that shows which of your credits will transfer and how transferable credits will be posted on your U-M transcript. For information on how transfer credits can count for your degree, go to our Transfer Credits page.
Watch the tutorial below for a detailed explanation on how to interpret your Transfer Credit Student Summary Report.
There are a few reasons why you might submit a course for evaluation.
If there is a note on your Transfer Credit Student Summary Report asking you to submit course materials to have a course evaluated for transfer.
If the note lists See EECS, See MATH, or See STATS follow the instructions on where to submit these courses to those departments.
If the note asks for additional information for other courses submit those to the Credit Evaluation office as noted.
Credit for the First Year Writing Requirement - Submit classes to the Sweetland Center for Writing
If you have a class that transfers as ENGLISH 125 it fulfills the First Year Writing Requirement. You do not need to submit it for further evaluation.
If you completed writing classes that transfer as ENGCMPTC 101X Departmental or ENGLISH 101X Departmental, you can submit these classes to have them evaluated.
To use Departmental Credit for a major or minor
If you have classes that transferred as Departmental credit that you plan to use for a major or a minor or as a prerequisite for higher level classes you can submit them to the department for evaluation. For more information and links to each departments' transfer page go here.
Classes that were not approved for transfer that you would like to explore having transferred. Contact us to ask about this.
When not to submit classes for further evaluation
You do not need to do anything with courses that transfer as departmental credit that you will not be using for a major or minor. Your academic advisor will make the determination as how they count toward the LSA general degree requirements.
For example:
If you are an English major and have a class that transfers as BIOLOGY 101X Departmental you do not have to do anything. This course will count for Natural Science Area Distribution.
If you are a Biology major and have a class that transfers as ENGLISH 101X Departmental you do not have to do anything. This course will count for Humanities Area Distribution.
Secure in your spot in LSA by paying the $300 enrollment deposit or request request it to be waived by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. You can do this from your Enrollment Connect portal.
Once you decide to enroll at U-M and pay your deposit, you will receive an email invitation to set up your uniqname. Your uniqname is your U-M user name. It is used for logging in to U-M websites, online services, systems, and more.
Your U-M email address will be the uniqname you create followed by @umich.edu. Once you create your uniqname all official correspondence from the University will be sent to your umich.edu email. The University will no longer email you at the email address you used during the admission process.
You will receive the Orientation invitation in your UMICH email in early April or one week after you pay your enrollment deposit. You will meet with your academic advisor at Orientation and register for your first semester courses.
On Campus. For those wanting to live on campus, submit your housing application by early May. You will receive an email from the University housing office when the housing application is available.
