The Science Learning Center offers free peer study groups and peer tutoring for a variety of STEM courses at UM. The SLC Peer-Led Study Group Program provides opportunities for students enrolled in introductory natural science courses to meet on a weekly basis with a group of up to 15 peers to review course material, solve problems, and gain an understanding of course concepts. Study groups are facilitated by peer facilitators who have already successfully completed the course at UM, and are trained in facilitation techniques.
The SLC Tutoring program provides drop in tutoring and appointment based tutoring. Drop-in tutoring for all students currently enrolled in five introductory science courses: Biology 171 and 172, Chemistry 130, 210, and 215. Appointment based tutoring is open to specific eligible groups of students (including transfer students) for Biology 171, 172, 222, 225, 305, Chemistry 130, 210, 215, 230, 260/261, 351, MCDB 310, Physics 135, 140, 235 and 240. SLC Peer Study Group Facilitators and Tutors are undergraduate students who have taken the course they are supporting at UM. Please see the SLC website for more information on how to access these services: https://lsa.umich.edu/slc.
The SLC is physically located in 1720 Chemistry, with a satellite location in 2165 USB. While the physical locations of the SLC are currently closed due COVID-19, when our physical space is open we also offer GSI-office hours, computing, and study spaces.
