Lauren Czerniak completed her Ph.D. in Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan. She was co-advised by Mark S. Daskin and Mariel S. Lavieri. Her research focused on developing and applying stochastic models to address current challenges in healthcare with applications in pharmaceutical drugs and concussion management. She was recognized as a Rackham Merit Fellow and she was a recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.
In addition, women in STEM is an intitiative that she is very passionate about. During her undergraduate career at the University of Pittsburgh, she was involved in the Society of Women Engineers where she held officer and leadership positions in addition to volunteering at a variety of outreach events. She feels these roles allowed her to serve as a role model to women interested in STEM. At the University of Michigan, her involvement in the Institute for Operations Research and the Managements Sciences (INFORMS) allowed her to continue to serve as a role model to women intrigued by STEM as well as students from other minority groups.
