BIO

Laurel Detert is a fourth year Ph.D. candidate in Management and Organizations at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Prior to joining Ross, she received her B.S. in Neuroscience and Public Health from the College of William and Mary.

Laurel’s research examines how vertical (e.g., power, hierarchy, status) and horizontal (e.g., relationships, roles, attributions) dimensions of interpersonal interactions influence risk-taking, helping, and emotions at work. Using theoretical and methodological inspiration from various disciplines, she explores how aspects of the individual (e.g., gender, social motives) and aspects of the work environment (e.g., power asymmetries, leader visions) influence interpersonal dynamics.
