Bio
I am a Postdoctoral Research Associate working jointly in the Department of Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering (CME) and the Department of Biological Sciences (BIOS) at the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC). I received my M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan focusing on wastewater-based epidemiology and studying the behavior of pathogenic viruses in wastewater. I received my B.S. in Civil Engineering from Marquette University where I investigated the role of corrosion inhibitors and quaternary-ammonium compounds, namely zinc orthophosphate and benzalkonium chloride, on the selection of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and antibiotic resistance genes in drinking water.
My research interests lie at the intersection of Environmental Engineering and Public Health and specifically respond to grand challenges related to mitigating antimicrobial resistance in the built environment and informing public health decisions through disease surveillance.
