Course 425 (Winter 2022 term):

Instructor: Jonathan Husson, Office number 4060, E-mail: jhusson@mich.edu

Class meets every Monday, Wednesday, Friday between 8.00 am and 8.50 am in room 1360 in East Hall

Office hours : Tuesday, Friday 2pm-3.30pm

Textbook: A first course in Probability, 10th edition by Sheldon Ross.

The course will be divided into 3 parts:

  • Part I: Basics of probability theory, combinatorial aspects and axioms ( Section 1 to 3 of the textbook)

  • Part II: Randoms variables: classical laws and properties (Section 4 and 5)

  • Part III: Joint distribution of several random variables and limit theorems (Selections of sections 6 to 8)

There will be weekly (graded) homework assigned each Wednesday. You can cooperate and you will not be graded down for doing so but you must acknowledge your cooperation on your assignment. Since most answers are numerical, they need a formula and at least a short sentense of justification to be acceptable. At the end of the year, the 2 worst graded homework will be dropped. If you're not registered to the course and you do not intend to, I can't accept assignments from you. The deadline for registering is January 26. The homework assigned can be found on this page:
