Wallace J. Hopp's research focuses on the design, control, and management of operations systems, with emphasis on manufacturing and supply chain systems, innovation processes, and health care systems. He has published over 100 papers in leading academic journals, including recent works that develop analytics and machine learning tools to leverage observational data in personalized medicine. He has also written three books, Factory Physics (with Mark Spearman), Supply Chain Science, and Hospital Operations (with William Lovejoy).
Hopp is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of IIE, INFORMS, MSOM, POMS and SME. He has served as President of the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) and as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Management Science. He is a founding editor of the practice-oriented publication Management and Business Review and is an active industry consultant, whose clients have included many Fortune 500 firms.
