deep Hole Micro-Drilling
deep Hole Micro-Drilling
The goal was to design a manufacturing process to precisely drill 50 micron holes into a rat skull cap for medical experimentation. Our team examined different subtractive manufacturing processes, but in the end settled on using a high speed CNC milling machine. From there we designed a mounting system to make sure the skull cap could be accurately placed and referenced. This made the positioning in the CNC mill simple and quick. We then experimented with speeds and feeds to determine the optimal settings.
