Addressing Poor Mental Health and Substance Misuse Among MI Workers During COVID-19 and Beyond

This study seeks to identify how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted mental health and substance misuse among hotel workers.

Chemically & Environmentally Safer Nail Salons: Empowering Workers through Education

This project seeks to provide online training modules to individuals working in nail salons on the chemicals hazards they are exposed to at work and how they can protect themselves.

Phase I of this study was funded by the  Michigan Lifestage Environmental Expoures and Disease (M-LEEaD) Center. Phase II is funded by the Graham Sustainability Institute Catalyst Grant. 

Michigan Healthy Nail Salon Cooperative

Founded in 2016, MHNSC focuses on advocacy, education, and research to raise awareness on the health and safety issues faced by nail salon owners and employees. The team spearheading this initiative is made up of professors, researchers, and students at the University of Michigan who are committed to finding solutions to ensure the health and safety of workers and their salons.
