Reading. The textbook is very detailed in explanation. The lectures are made assuming that you have read the corresponding sections of the textbook before watching them.
Lectures (asynchronous). They are recorded and released before the day of the lecture. You are expected to finish watching them by the end of the lecture day. There are videos for Fridays, but you are NOT expected to have watched them before class.
Homework. Practicing is essential in learning. I will assign homework problems in two parts.
Part A has textbook problems with answers in the back and will be assigned in each video lecture. You are expected to check your own answers and make corrections.
Part B has other problems and will be assigned weekly.
Homework is turned in as a single set on the following Friday and should contain three sections. (So that each set has Part A homework of F-M-W with the exception of the first set, which has Part A homework of W-M-W.)
Section 1 - A report on how you did in Part A. Samples include: Any problem you can't figure out and want more explanation? Any type of problem that you want more?
Section 2 - Part A problems with corrections.
Section 3 - Part B problems.
Please arrange the set in the given order. The grader will grade Sections 1 and 2 by completion and Section 3 by correctness.
TeamHW. These are problem sets designed for strengthening your understanding of certain topics. The problems will be released in advance and you will have one class to discuss your ideas in breakout rooms. Each group will turn in just one copy of solution for the whole group, due on the following Wednesday. You may need to meet after class to finish it. To best use the time, please think about the problems before you come to class. Read more
Exercises. This is similar to the TeamHW, except that the problems are given in class and you are not required to turn in written answers.
Quizzes. Quizzes will have multiple choices and/or short questions. On days of quizzes, we will have 20 minutes for Q&A and then 20 minutes for quizzes. They are open-paper-notes, off-digital-book, off-internet, off-calculator. You will be asked to have your video ON on Zoom during the quizzes.
Exams. The midterms are 35 minutes. They are open-paper-notes, off-digital-book, off-internet, off-calculator. You will be asked to have your video ON on Zoom during the exams.
