Behavioral ecology and evolution
WELCOME!
We study how sexually-selected traits evolve in spiders and other arthropods. And more recently we are assessing the impact of changes in precipitation on insect abundance and how that influences spider mating behavior.
What's happening in the lab?
The lab was awarded a recent grant to study how insect abundance and biodiversity changes over time along the lower Rouge River. We are sorting insect samples in the lab, counting and then weighing them to get a measure of insect biomass and biodiversity. This project emerged from our yearly sampling of the insect prey that our spiders feed on.
The lab was awarded a recent grant to analyze videotapes of field data collected on spider behavior right before the pandemic began.
