CASC Accomplishments

Our goal from the beginning has always been to center student voice, and through this, we have developed and contributed to many programs and campus initiatives. Some highlights of these accomplishments include the creation of:

  • Student Social Justice Grants - to support on-campus organizing and programming around social change
  • Certificate in Poverty Solutions - to promote students to engage in a specific focus around income inequality
  • Summer Social Justice Internship Fund - a fund to off-set costs for students to pursue summer social justice opportunities
  • So Cool, So Just Student Fair - a student-founded fair for socially just student organizations and programs to recruit and inform the campus
  • Alumni Networking - to engage alumni in our capstone course to share their wisdom with graduating CASC seniors. Every year, over 100 alumni participate.
  • CASC Podcasts and Videos - a new media effort to engage alumni and students in a series of podcasts and videos to share their social change work and journey.
  • DECLARE: A Social Justice Retreat - an initially student-developed social justice retreat, which is now a cornerstone social justice development course for CASC.
  • Student Advisory Board & Student Outreach Board - to continue to provide spaces for student voice and advice into the very fabric of the minor.
  • Partnerships with Campus Organizations and Units - such as Semester in Detroit, Michigan Community Scholars Program, Trotter Multicultural Center, Ginsberg Center, Program on Intergroup Relations, Center for Engaged Academic Learning, and the University Musical Society.
  • Global Independent Studies - a partnership with the School of Social Work Office of Global Activities that provides global study experiences for declared casc minor students.
