A movement to inspire our Michigan Engineering community to practice empathy and generosity toward our fellow students facing financial crises, providing every student with the opportunity to be among “those who stay”. CARE’s goal is to create a $1.5 million endowment maintained by the College of Engineering that will generate $67,500 in scholarships per year.
28% of Michigan Engineering students indicated that Scholarships & Financial Aid do not meet their needs. Each year, 5 to 7 Michigan Engineering students need $5,000 to $10,000 of additional aid to keep them from dropping out of the College of Engineering due to emergency financial circumstances. These circumstances could involve a parent’s loss of a job or a severe illness in a student’s family.
The CARE Scholarship is a one-semester award to keep students in school during a financial crisis. The College of Engineering will be responsible for administering the gift in accordance with University bylaws and policies, and Michigan law will control the Fund. The recipients selected will remain anonymous.
