Hello, I'm Batuhan Akcay, a software engineer with a deep passion for the transformative power of technology on society. I believe that through innovation and ethical development of software technologies, we can shape a brighter future for all.
My journey in the world of software engineering led me to Eightfold AI, where I had the privilege of working on the AI Platform team. In this role, I specialized in matching algorithms and bias mitigation, contributing to cutting-edge solutions that enhance diversity and fairness in AI-driven processes.
I hold Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from University of Michigan and my technical expertise spans across various domains, including:
Programming Languages (Python, C++, JavaScript)
Full Stack Web Development (Flask, React, CSS, HTML)
Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing and Computer Vision (LLMs, PyTorch, NLTK, OpenCV)
Data Management, Analysis, and Retrieval (SQL, Pandas, Apache Solr)
I'm always open to engage in discussions, sharing insights, and collaborating on exciting projects in the world of software and AI technologies.
On this website you can find more information on my professional work, social life, and my hobbies. Hope you enjoy it!

I was born in 1998, in Istanbul, Turkey. I grew up in the concrete jungles of Istanbul and graduated from Istanbul High School with a proficiency in the German language and STEM fields in 2017.
To expand my vision of the world and explore different cultures, I decided to embark on a journey to go to college in United States. I graduated with an M.S.E and B.S.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. After college, I joined Eightfold AI as a software engineer in the AI Platform - Matching & Bias Team and since then I've been working on bias mitigation in matching algorithms, contributing to cutting-edge solutions that enhance diversity and fairness in AI-driven talent recruitment and management processes.
I am passionate about experiencing different cultures and learning languages. I am fluent in Turkish (Native), English and German, and intermediate level in Chinese (Mandarin). Furthermore, I completed the International Minor for Engineers at University of Michigan to become a well rounded engineer who can adapt to multicultural work settings easily and communicate efficiently with people across different cultures.
In my free time I enjoy traveling, outdoor activities, skateboarding, snowboarding, Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu Jutsu which are among many of my hobbies. One of my major life goals is to go on an adventure in every single one of the states in USA. So far I've been to 46 out of the 50, only Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, and Idaho remain to achieve my goal.
Visiting my brother with my mom in Berlin, Germany (2018)
My family played a big role in my personal growth and life. So I would like to introduce them to you:
Mom: We are very close to each other. Even though we live on different halves of the world (She lives in Turkey, I live in USA), we keep in touch often and support each other through the challenges of life. I see her as one of my best friends and share most of my experiences in life with her. She was the one who taught me how to work hard and play hard.
Dad: I respect my dad a lot. I learned many things from him, especially many important professional life skills like effective communication, being on time, having backup plans, giving direct answers to questions. I hope that I can be more successful than him one day and make him proud.
Brother: He was my role model and my best friend when I was growing up. We spent countless hours together playing PlayStation, analyzing our parents' behaviors and questioning our moral compasses in life. Currently, he lives in Berlin, Germany and he is doing a PhD in Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Berlin. I hope one day we will be able to live in the same country, so that we can spend more time with each other and work on exciting projects together.
Girlfriend: She is my life partner, my best friend, my lover, and most importantly my english teacher. She inspires me to be a dreamer, pursue creativity, host incredible parties and events. We experienced many adventures together: transitioning from college kids to young adults when we got our first full-time jobs, moving across the country with my car (a.k.a Cartuhan), celebrating Turkish and Indian cultural holidays, trying out new hobbies like rock climbing. I am very happy to have her on my side as I go through this precious life. I hope, I am able to be a positive influence on her as much as she is on me.
