Andrea D. Thompson, MD/PhD
Assistant Professor, University of Michigan Department of Internal MedicineDivision of Cardiovascular Medicine 
Dr. Thompson completed her undergraduate training in chemical engineering at M.I.T.  She completed her subsequent education and training at the University of Michigan. She obtained her M.D. and Ph.D. in chemical biology through the medical scientist training program, working in the laboratory of Jason Gestwicki. She completed her clinical training in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and critical care medicine. Most recently, she worked with Sharlene Day and David Ginsburg during her post-doctoral research fellowship. When she is not in the lab, she enjoys spending time with her family, including her two daughters, and playing basketball.  
Her areas of expertise include genetic cardiomyopathies, chemical biology, molecular chaperones, and critical care cardiology. 
Ulla Lilienthal

Before joining the Thompson Lab, Ulla previously worked as a lab manager in the laboratories of  Zhaohui Xu, Dan Southworth, and Melanie Ohi. There she gained experience in a variety of structural biology techniques including protein purification and cryo-electron microscopy. She also completed her master's degree in chemical biology at the University of Michigan in 2017.  When she is not in the lab, she enjoys spending time with friends and her three children. She is a lover of animals particularly horses and her son's Goldendoodle. 
Samantha Nichols

Samantha is a senior undergraduate student in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts pursuing microbiology and minoring in the history of medicine and health. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school after taking a brief gap year to work as a clinical microbiologist. She enjoys being a UTA for other undergraduate students in introductory biology classes and encourages students to pursue microbiology as well. When not in the lab, she enjoys reading, playing Mario Kart with her siblings, and spending time with her family’s two cats Milo and Kevin.”  

Keely Weber

Keely is a sophmore undergraduate student at the University of Michigan in the College of LS&A, and is currently planning to major in Biochemistry and minor in Spanish. She enjoys playing tennis and the piano, and adventuring in the mountains in Colorado.

Mathav Vignesh

Mathav Vignesh is currently a junior undergraduate student at the University of Michigan. He is planning to major in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology in hopes of going to medical school in the future. He is currently working in Dr. Thompson’s lab as part of the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program studying the contraction of cardiomyocytes. In his free time, he enjoys running on trails, watching soccer, and spending time with his friends and family.
