I am an information scientist, and an assistant professor at the University of Michigan School of Information.

I conduct research in the areas of:

• data curation,
• museum informatics (particularly natural history museums),
• earth science and biodiversity informatics,
• information organization, and
• computer supported cooperative work.

I am especially interested in how people use and create data and metadata standards; the impact of information organization on information use; long-term data curation and infrastructure sustainability -- on the scale of decades rather than years; improving data curation processes and workflows; and issues of data provenance, reproducibility, and integration.

Recently, I was awarded an early career grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services studying the migration of research data collections, and am recruiting PhD students to work on this and similar projects!

My doctorate is the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana‐Champaign (2017). Prior to grad school, I dug up fossils at the La Brea Tar Pits. When not professoring, I try to get outside and explore, or stay inside to take up messy and overly complicated art, craft or cooking projects while watching awesome/bad sci-fi.
