OUR GOAL
In convening this Anti-colonial and Environmental Justice RIW (ACEJ), our goal is two-pronged:
1) to create an intellectual community where fellow participants from multiple disciplinary backgrounds come together to read, write, and deepen our understanding of anti- and de-colonial methodologies, especially from scholars and thinkers working at the intersections of environmental studies, settler colonial and postcolonial studies, Indigenous studies, science and technology studies, social theory, and research ethics; and
2) to bridge the gap between theory and praxis by fostering inter-and intra-community collaborations among scholars, activists, and community organizers. By fostering such collaborations, we thereby aim to build capacity and reciprocity for ongoing solution-based and advocacy-oriented projects and public-engaged pedagogy.
ABOUT US
The ACEJ RIW consists of members from LSA, SEAS, U-M Medical School, etc. We gather because of our shared interests and commitments in environmental and Indigenous justice. The facilitation of group activities receives support and guidance from the Tishman Center for Social Justice and the Environment in consultation with the center’s faculty director, Dr. Kyle Whyte, and inaugural director, Michelle Martinez.
