Now that you have successfully completed the training, you will become an "Intern." During this period you have one year from the last date of your training to complete 40 hours of volunteer service. For your hours to count, they must be entered into the Volunteer Management Systems, often referred to as VMS. Once you've been entered into the system, you will receive an email generated from VMS with your username and password. If you ever have problems entering hours or accessing VMS, you can reach out to your local VMS administrator or Kaitlyn Baligush (kbaligus@umd.edu), Program Management Specialist at the Master Gardener State Office.
Your Master Gardener Coordinator will provide you with the volunteer opportunities specific to your location. Most programs host a "Volunteer Fair" towards the end of training so you can learn more about the projects and also meet the Master Gardeners involved with them.
Your Master Gardener Coordinator will provide you with an official name tag and lanyard. Please wear this whenever you volunteer. Seasonally, a Master gardener pop-up shop is opened to purchase additional branded merchandise such as shirts, hats, and jackets. This shop will be featured in the Master Gardener State Office newsletter. Interns are automatically added to this list, so you do not need to subscribe.
