BGSS is a society of diverse students with diverse career goals and looks to provide members with a full view of available career paths through on and off campus events. Examples of events include:

• Science in Government Career Panel with scientists from FDA, NIH, and NIST

• Industry tours at local businesses in our field

BGSS is committed to promoting academic excellence among graduate students and is always planning new events to hone academic skills.

Examples of events include:

• Qualifying and Proposal Exam prep panels

• Master classes on software useful for reports and presentations

• Presentation workshops

One goal of BGSS is to bring the population of graduate students together. Through social events with graduate students and the wider community, we provide students means to meet others and help the community. Examples include:

• Happy hours 

• Department holiday party

• BBQs and tailgates​

• ​Sporting events

Our graduate student population is composed of a diverse group of people with various ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, etc. Through learning about other peoples' experiences both in graduate school and beyond can allow us to better understand one another as colleagues and friends. Some events that our DEI committee hosts to foster these discussions are:

• Movie nights

• Coffee hours

• Museum outings

• Open floor discussions

• Trainings

RAP is an event where graduate students and post-docs present a selection of their work for a brief scientific and social discussion. Free pizza is always provided and all are welcome to attend!
