The conference will be held in two main buildings:
Jimenez Hall (JMZ), home to the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures,
and
H.J. Patterson Hall (HJP), home to the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Center.
Both buildings are located right next to the McKeldin Mall at the heart of our beautiful campus.
The University of Maryland is mostly surrounded by residential areas, such as Hyattsville, Greenbelt, and Riverdale, where there’s a wide variety of rooms and houses for rent with online providers. We recommend using a reliable lodging provider.
Hotels in DC are also available, however rates can be higher. The Hotel at the University of Maryland is the closest one, located within campus. For advising or inquiries about lodging, please contact the organizing committee at sllc-gradconference@umd.edu.
By Train:
The Amtrak train system runs through the Northern East Coast, from Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, and Richmond. The closest station to the University of Maryland-College Park is New Carrolton. This is the last stop before Union Station, located in the middle of the capital.
By Plane:
Three airports serve the urban area of Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC: Washington Dulles Airport (IAD), located in the western side in the city; Ronald Reagan Airport (DCA), located by the Potomac River near Downtown of DC, and BWI in Baltimore. Both IAD and DCA airports have access to the capital’s metro system. We recommend landing in DCA, as it closer to DC and College Park.
By Metro:
The Green Line of the metro system in DC connects the university’s main campus with the capital. The UMD Shuttle no. 104 runs from the metro station (College Park) to campus.
By Bus:
Busses are limited. The red line runs through Maryland and DC.
By Car: Uber and Lyft are available within DC and Maryland during the day and night, however rates may be higher if commuting from DC to College Park.
