The Letters & Sciences (LTSC) Peer Mentoring Program (PMP) is an exciting initiative designed to connect enthusiastic Smith Peer Mentors with LTSC students who are excited to learn more about Business majors or minors. This program offers a unique space for sharing helpful insights and personal experiences as future LEP students. Peer mentors play a key role in supporting current LTSC students by:
Building a supportive network and connections — engaging with fellow Terps and inspiring them through their stories and advice, especially when transitioning to the Smith major.
Sharing valuable insights — offering guidance on navigating academic paths and sharing information about opportunities, events, resources, and recommendations that can enrich the Smith School experience.
Providing helpful tips and resources - from exploring various Smith student organizations to attending career development events, internships, resume building, and other career planning activities.
Please review the Business LEP requirements before attending.
Peer-to-Peer Support & Guidance - Get personalized advice and helpful insights from our friendly Peer Mentors who are here to support you.
Helpful Resources & Events - Discover a variety of resources and upcoming events at the Smith School that can enrich your academic experience.

OUR SMITH PEER MENTORS
Catarina Vescio - Junior, Finance & Marketing Major [STUDYING ABROAD]
Catarina is deeply engaged in various activities through the Smith Undergraduate Student Association (SUSA), including Women in Business and the Fashion Business Association. As a former Freshman Connection (FC) student, she's more than happy to share how her FC experience compares to those who entered the Smith major directly.
"As a student who was admitted as a freshman connection admit, I feared falling behind... but I now realize that this experience allowed me to explore multiple majors and ultimately pick the one best suited for me without ever feeling at a disadvantage compared to my peers." Catarina's advice to Freshman Connection (FC) students
Christian Ramirez - Junior, Accounting & Information Systems Major
Christian is an uncle and was a Freshman Connection student, taking all classes at night during his first semester. He's an active member of Active Minds, a group dedicated to raising awareness about mental health, spreading education, and combating mental health stigma at UMD.
"Space out the LEP requirements so you don't overburden yourself with too much work." Christian's advice about completing the Business LEP requirements
Cristina Kramer - Junior, Marketing Major
Cristina serves as a BMGT364 Teaching Assistant (TA) and proudly represents the Office of Letters & Sciences as an LTSC Student Ambassador. She has also had the rewarding experience of coaching Club Volleyball!
"Give yourself grace. College isn’t easy, and you should be proud of yourself for pushing through. Trust that you’ll end up exactly where you’re meant to be, and enjoy the journey along the way. Don’t be too hard on yourself, and remember: you can do anything you set your mind to!" Cristina's advice to prospective Business majors
Javier Coleman - Junior, Finance & Information Systems Major
Javier serves as an Advisory Council Member for the Smith Business Academy (SBA), is the Members Services Supervisor at Eppley Recreation Center, and is a member of the QUEST Honors Program and Product Space at UMD. He's a passionate Washington Commanders fan!
"Try as many things that interest you as possible, especially early on! This way, you'll be able to stay involved with the things you enjoy the most...remember you’re not locked into one path. Smith majors are highly flexible, especially in your first few semesters, giving you room to explore different interests within business." Javier's advice about getting involved on campus
