  • Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for Business

Utilizing a learning-by-doing approach to understand key concepts behind Big Data and AI, the strategic drivers of these technologies, and the value propositions that they provide across industries.

  • Data Mining & Predictive Analytics

An introduction to the tools and techniques of data mining & machine learning that are central to business analytics, with particular emphasis on classification and prediction.

  • Database Systems

The fundamentals of database management systems (DBMS), data models, query processing, and data warehouses, and their application in the development of business information systems.

  • Platform Design & Strategy

Examining the role of platform policies and design on firm individual user behavior, competitive advantage, and broader societal trends.

  • Introduction to Artificial Intelligence

Introduces a range of ideas and methods in AI, including: knowledge representation, logical and statistical inference, learning, and natural language processing.

BMGT 301: Introduction to Information Systems, the University of Maryland (Undergraduate)

Spring, Fall 2021 Semesters: 129 students total

Course Description: A comprehensive overview of basic information systems principles, as well as the intersection between information systems and strategy. Some concepts covered include data mining, the sharing economy, information systems security, network effects, and competitive advantage. Students are taught Excel fundamentals, which they apply to business analytics problems in assignments throughout the course.

Course Description: This course teaches students to clean and assemble large datasets, then utilize them to build attractive and professional visualizations. Technical skills taught include R, PyChart, and Tableau.
