Program Development
The Green Terp Program started in fall 2015, when the Director of Resident Life created the Green Terp Advisory Committee with the charge of investigating, researching and developing a residential sustainability program for UMD.
After a successful pilot, the program expanded campus-wide in 2018. Many have contributed to developing the Green Terp Program, including:
Students
Resident Life
Residential Facilities (including housekeeping)
Dining Services
Recycling and Solid Waste Office
Living Learning programs
Office of Sustainability
Resident Hall Association (RHA)
A big debt of gratitude goes to Lisa Alexander, Resident Life's Coordinator for Sustainability Programs, and all of the Resident Directors and Resident Assistants involved in the pilot phase of the Green Terp program.

Green Terp and SDGs
The Green Terp program aligns closely with the values and goals of the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UN SDG website defines the goals:
At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
The Green Terp program connects to many of the Sustainable Development Goals including Good Health and Well-Being (Goal 3), Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12), Climate Action (Goal 13), Life on Land (Goal 15), and Partnerships for the Goals (Goal 17).
