What we learned about the creative process...
Throughout this workshop, we practiced the creative process to develop, refine, and carry out each class and guide our students through the completion of the final project. Week to week, we adapted our classroom management strategies, added detail and specificity to our lesson plans, invigorated group discussions with active learning methods, and used various assessment types to gauge students' understanding of class concepts. We've pulled strategies from multiple resources to improve our own teaching approaches. To optimize our lesson plan we added checks for understanding, conclusions and previews of the next class, and created a realistic but flexible timeline each week (Milkova). We utilized a variety of class discussion strategies such as gallery walks, think-pair-share, socratic-style circles, and small group breakouts (Gonzalez, 2015). We have drawn information from studies showing how to engage students in active learning through classroom design, implementing multiple activities that had students walk around the room and use the large space our room offered, such as with the algorithm moderator simulation and label writing activities (Rands & Gansemer-Topf, 2017).
