Biography & Personal Statement
Hello! My name is Lizzie, and I'm a sophomore in the College of Information Studies, with a major in Information Science and a minor in History. Born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland, I have always appreciated art of all varieties. My mother and I have occasionally taken trips to the Kennedy Center in DC to view plays and musicals, and I grew up drawing and painting. In high school, I developed my tastes, learning to crochet and becoming especially passionate about photography and digital designing (which I used to launch a small pin business, wherein I would sell my buttons to students). My artistic interests include [but are not limited to] photography, crochet/fiber crafts, graphic design, collage, and mixed-media sculpture. In the future, I want to examine the impacts of art as a language and the effectiveness with which different methods of creating art convey messages. After graduating with my undergraduate degree in Information Science, my goal is to pursue a Master's Degree in Information and Library Science to later become a librarian or archivist.Â
As a College Park Arts Scholar, I intend to explore my research interests in how art can be communicative. My aim in scholars is to further my abilities in each of the art as mentioned above forms and expand my knowledge base to encompass more methods to create art. Out of my Scholars experience, I plan to step out of my comfort zone and develop more creative outlets. I want to encapsulate myself in my art and take full advantage of the resources provided to me (like field trips and guest speakers) to do so.
