The Decision, Operations and Information Technologies (DO&IT) Department

The Decision, Operations and Information Technologies (DO&IT) Department at the Robert H. Smith School of Business has the following vision:

The widespread availability of data, combined with advances in information technology and our understanding of operations, have led to transformative shifts in the way that industry and government agencies do business. Courses in the Department provide students with an understanding of technology, social media, spreadsheet modeling, digital markets, data mining and predictive analytics, operations and supply chain, pricing and revenue management and project management. Department faculty conduct leading-edge research on these topics and bring the results into the classroom.

The Department offers two undergraduate majors (Information Systems major and Operations Management & Business Analytics major)  and undergraduate minor, a wide selection of courses in all of the MBA programs (full time, part time, and online), three MS programs (Information Systems, full time Business Analytics and online Business Analytics), and a PhD program. Department faculty are highly ranked in the profession and among business school IT and operations management groups.  The faculty includes a mix of well-published research faculty who bring rich concepts to the classroom while experienced professional faculty members contribute their experience in industry and government to the curriculum.

Students with knowledge of information technology, data analytics and operations are highly sought after by all types of employers, and we encourage students to take courses in DO&IT to prepare for a rewarding career in business or government.
