Since there are multiple types of COVID-19 diagnostic methods, it is important to compare these tests based on the ASSURED criteria. This is why this page covers what the ASSURED criteria and compares the diagnostic tests based on it.
Criteria used to determine which diagnostic test is the most appropriate and accessible. ASSURED stands of affordable, sensitive, specific, user-friendly, equipment-free, and deliverable to end-user.
This is the ability of a test to be administered at the time and location that a patient is present with the illness.
The level of accessibility to the users the diagnostic test. This is the ability of the test to be delivered to the main audience.
This paper addresses specifically the limitations of the diagnostic tests evaluated in the figure above. They compare the differences between these diagnostic tests. There is mention of rt-qPCR, rolling circle amplification, LAMP, and CRISPR based methods. This is relevant because it is a comparison of each of the tests we are discussing.
This paper addresses the CRISPR based method specifically. According to the ASSURED criteria, the CRISPR method appears to be the best diagnostic test. Various advantages and disadvantages of this method are discussed. This is directly related to the information in figure 1 because it helps organize the data about the strengths and limitations of using CRISPR to detect COVID-19.
