In creating this project, I learned about the importance of “killing your darlings” or making sacrifices in your artwork as part of the iterative process. In CPSA250, we learned to receive feedback on our creative work and to adjust based on this. No matter how good I thought an idea or first draft was, I was forced to create several iterations of it, which was challenging. At first I was hesitant to let go of ideas or works that seemed really strong, but once I achieved my final drafts, I was glad to have made sacrifices in past drafts to get there. This was true with both my written work and my visual art. There is the common idea of not wanting to disrupt a “pure” first draft, and I was a believer in this until I found my work improving throughout the semester as I had to revise over and over.
