Model clay, aluminum foil, acrylic paint
In asian culture, we bring gifts when invited to people's homes or different event gatherings. The box of asian pears represents the culture because being boxes of fruit are commonly brought as gifts and its special to asian culture. I made it life size to really capture the grand gesture of almost being "too much".
Halmoni's Hands

Digital
This digital piece is connected to the clay bunny apples. "Halmoni" means grandma in Korean and I wanted to portray my grandma's hands cutting the apples. I wanted to represent how mothers/grandmothers, spend time to cut up your favorite fruits out of love and with care. This is another way of expressing their love and admiration.

This clay pieve is connceted to my digital piece of my grandma's hands cutting apples. I made this piece personal to me while also representing other Asian American people by making apple slices in the shape of a bunny. In Asian culture, mothers tend to show their love through food. In many asian households, the words, "I love you" and "I'm sorry" are hardly said but are shown through actions and understanding like making food and cutting up bowls/plates of fruit. my grandma likes to cut me apples in the shape of bunnies and this is her expression of love.
Split Culture

Digital
This digital piece is portraying the conflict Asian American students face in school cafeterias. Growing up, Asian American kids get bullied for their cultural food for the way it smells and tatses so they start to hide away from their culture by only bringing stereotypical American lunches like mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, and lunchables. They are left with feeling ashamed of their heritage and its food and try to hide it and even try conforming into their American peers to avoid being bullied and singled out.
