Titled after the volunteers who agreed to participate in being casted for my project, these pieces physically showcase the broken relationships caretakers often have with patients due to anticipatory grief. The underlying plaster cast, functioning as a sort of "death mask," representing the act of grief that warps and breaks through the familiar image of the faces of Arts Scholars community members. What's left behind is a cracked, incomplete, and nearly unrecognizable face-like artifact that gives a glimpse into the experience of the complex pull of absence and presence associated with pre-demise grieving.
