It's Alive (2026)
Mary McHale
Assorted fabric, embroidery thread, ink
This outfit is an exploration of style and practicality, playing with the idea of "reanimation" as saving fabric from being thrown out by repurposing it. All of the clothing used to make these items was torn, stained, worn through, or otherwise unsellable and destined for the landfill. With one semester's worth of learning along the way, this outfit took shape despite starting with very little sewing knowledge. It is entirely hand-sewn, and most of it made without any pattern or guide (aside from the jacket). Part of an effort to reduce fast fashion, this takes upcycling into a new stylistic direction, and demonstrates the relatively little skill required to figure out large-scale sewing projects.
