The most important lesson learned from this project is that the technical side of art is just as important as the creative side. The very first task assigned to sophomore Art Scholars this semester wasn’t a first draft of creative work, or a quick mock-up of what the final would look like, but a workplan listing out small benchmarks that would build up into the final project (CPSA250, Week 1). This workplan changed the method of creation from being big picture to being goal-oriented where each benchmark could be compared to a standard, which meant that every single benchmark and aspect of the work would come out as strong as it could possibly be, enhancing the quality of the final work. Without a workplan, time management would’ve been non-existent, as one would chase after the goal without learning how to take steps. All in all, having a set schedule for creation is good not just to get the project done, but to ensure that all aspects of that project have equal levels of quality.
The following pictures and paragraphs are the results of my practice with rapid iteration. They ulimately resemble the personalities and looks of that which ended up in the final, with a few minor tweaks here and there.
Tragedy. That’s all there is to say about it. Tragedy. You know they need people around to stop those impulses. They were just so alone in the end. Pushed everyone away because they were victims to themselves. And doctors never work. They never do. No one wants to be told that they’re built incorrectly, that they can’t think straight, especially not people like the victim. Tell them they’re wild and they’ll only become even madder. I never knew the poor fellow, not personally. I only heard talk about them, complaints that they were too brash at times and far too quiet at others. I saw them, one time. They seemed like a normal person, absolutely no issues at all. They did dress a little funny, and they seemed too shy to talk to anyone save for the cashier, but beyond that there was nothing out of the ordinary. I bet they would’ve been a great artist. No better way to explain the clash of the two minds than through artistry. Their works would have been pungent, likely more than my own. Alas, at the end, the victim fell through. … What makes a tragedy tragic is that your protagonist doesn’t listen to the world around them. Numerous people would have helped if they could just understand what that person was going through, but there simply was no way to find out. A killer? Yes, they could be branded as such. I’ve known people like that have killed before, likely in some fit of mania. I see no reason why being behind bars wouldn’t fix most of their issues.
I wish, I WISH I could have come up with something so dramatic! God, it would’ve been perfect! Such an easy way to make drama too. Gets rid of that character easily. Don’t even have to worry about how you treat ‘em because everyone will hate ‘em! Suicide, wow. Everyone’s doing it now, so that alone doesn’t make it special. Yeah, we all know that depression is bad and it’ll kill ya, just saying that makes you a broken record. But that’s where these people are different, they don’t do it when they’re depressed, no. They do it in a frenzy. A frenzy! They truly believe that they’re going out in a blaze of glory, that diving into the fire is the best way out! It’s a crazy way to think, don’t get me wrong, but they can’t control that! All you’ve gotta do is wind them up just a bit, then they’ll go on running forever! Not to mention, it can just happen at any time. Things are feeling too stable? Boom, the crazy comes out. Opposite is true, too. They can bring down the mood at any time, make everyone reflect on what ails them. Hm? The killer? You mean the dead body? I mean I guess that makes them a killer, but I don’t know if I’d go all in on that angle… Yeah, good drama, don’t get me wrong, but the thing still is a tragedy at the end of the day. No one wants to be that crazy, they just pop out that way! Even on medicine you know they can’t control it that well. Fine. Fine. All things considered, they did it to themselves. I guess they are guilty.
At the end of the day, there has to be a villain in this story. Unfortunately, they just fit the bill. That doesn’t mean they were trying to be bad, or trying to hurt anyone, that’s just what they ended up doing. I’ve seen it time and time again: someone just has a bad day and lashes out at everyone around them. It’s not exclusive to people like them, either. I’ve had my bad days, plenty of them, and I’ve done some pretty bad things. But I worked on myself after that, I tried to get better. No matter how much these people try to work on their mental illnesses, they’ll just fall right back into the hole every time. It’s pretty sad, really. I don’t like to see people like that, but I’ll always stop them when I have to. It’s up to us to protect our community, and letting people like that have their moments just dismantles it. Letting one person off the hook gives incentive for everyone to fly off the rails, and that just leads to chaos. Yes, I do think they killed themselves. Yes, I do think they are at fault for it. Why? Because they just didn’t reach out, didn’t ask for help, didn’t follow the proper guidelines for betterment. It works for everyone else, so why didn’t they go for it? If they don’t try to better themselves, then at the end of the day, they’re going to be the villain of their own story.
Do I think they did it? Absolutely I do! You know what they are? A villain, that’s what. Don’t care about anyone but themselves. Pah. You think people like that have it within themselves to avoid their carnal desires? No, no, they get to act on them all while the rest of us have to manage our emotions LIKE GROWN ADULTS DO. And at the end of it all, they have their regrets. Oh, woe is me, I acted like a child and now im facing the consequences of my actions. BOO HOO. God, I can’t stand these people! I dated a girl like that a couple years back, and she ruined my life. We’d be having a good moment and suddenly everything was out the drain! OR, I’d be out drinking with my buddies and, oh no! She feels lonely! God forbid a man get some alone time away from his psycho b- female. Yknow what was funny though, they would always post about their breakdowns, asking for help, or asking for someone to come over. All of those people do it, it’s like they’re addicted to posting. They always get the engagement though, and that’s the kicker. Who doesn’t love to see someone when they’re in rough shape? All it does is make you feel real good about yourself. Yeah, arrest the guy. Put em behind bars where they can’t cause any more trouble. Hell, throw them in solitary so they can’t infect anyone else with that crazy mindset. Everyone has depression, what makes them any more special? If you want to kill yourself, just black out your profile and throw a goodbye on your story. At least you’ll get reposted that way.
