Hello, my name is Jian Zheng. I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maryland, College Park. I am conducting a research project about how people use their phones and looking for participants.
You are eligible to participate if you meet all the following criteria:
18 years old or older
Living in the US
Fluent in English
Using an Android phone (as the primary phone if having more than one phone)
Using your phone for 3 hours or more per day on average
Interested in reducing excessive phone usage, such as mindless scrolling on social media, binge-watching short videos, and distracted by recommended content.
Having the habit of locking your phone when not in use, either manually or automatically
Can join Zoom meetings on a computer (i.e., not a smartphone)
Participants need to do the following tasks:
Install an app on their phones and keep it running for two weeks
Answer multiple brief surveys while using their phones
Join an online interview (optional) afterward
Full participation will take no more than 60 minutes (or 30 minutes if not joining the interview). See Procedure for more details.
Participants will receive a gift card with value up to $40 (with the interview) or $30 (without the interview) as the compensation according to how many brief surveys they have responded to, within one week after they finish the interview (or their last participation if they would not participate in the interview). See Payment for more details.
If you are interested in participating, please fill the form and I will contact you within one week.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at jzheng23@umd.edu.
