I think the main challenge throughout this creative process was organizing my research and ideas into a cohesive final product. I did very extensive research on the psychological effects of grief and specifically the term disenfranchised grief as well as research on the history of collage and the techniques it uses. I felt that I had a lot of really huge ideas and concepts, but I wasn’t able to file them down. One of the concepts we talked about in CPSA250 that really helped me with this dilemma was the idea of “killing your darlings” (Week 5). As difficult as it is to set aside or get rid of elements you want in your project, it was necessary in order for me to think clearly on my final project. My capstone has ended up in a lot of ways looking entirely different from how I originally thought it would, but in the best way. Through the processes we learned in CPSA250 I was able to grow as I worked and improve my project to become something better than I could have fathomed.
