Music and The '60s: Defining the Sound of a Decade, 2024
Original writing, digital design
This work looks at different songs and artists from the era of the 1960s and explores how they were influenced by or contributed to significant economic, political, and cultural events of the decade. Taking inspiration from major music magazines such as Rolling Stone and Rock Sound, the artist’s research is displayed in the form of a magazine that includes photos, quotes, and five articles; each article is accompanied by a playlist that includes the songs discussed in the writing. This work asks the audience to consider how music has influenced their own lives, and how the legacy of '60s era movements can still be seen in society today.
The playlists below can be listened to while reading each magazine article.
Playlist #1: Economy, Girl Groups, & The Beatles
Playlist #2: Politics, Protest, & Vietnam
Playlist #3: Culture, Civil Rights, & Change
