Faculty Participation
All faculty and instructors in the College of Arts and Humanities are invited to submit applications for support. Applications will be forwarded to the appropriate chair or unit leader for approval, and afterward, the College's Technology Advisory Committee will review and select the proposals to be supported. The Dean's Office pays half of the student's salary, and the instructor's department pays the other half of the student's salary.
Approximately four proposals will be selected per year based on the following criteria:
Impact on undergraduate education, which can be reflected by either the number of students affected or the unique nature of the project
Inclusion of the UTAP student in the academic process
Potential increase of the faculty member's ability to use academic technologies
Proposals can be for projects that last an entire semester or a series of smaller technology-related tasks. Check out previous UTAP project descriptions to see the types of projects UTAP students and faculty have accomplished in the past. Proposals are vetted by the College's Technology Advisory Committee. They usually receive more proposals than they're able to fund. To discuss your project ideas or for more information, please contact Brian Crawford.
Applications for proposals will close March 10th, 2024.
Student Participation
The College tries to pair students with faculty in their major field whenever possible. Technical knowledge is not required. Academic Technology staff will:
Make computers, equipment, and necessary software available to students who need it
Orient students prior to sending them off to work one-on-one with faculty
Meet with students every other week to discuss how the projects are going
Serve as guides for the students and faculty throughout the duration of the projects
Faculty projects tend to involve:
Web publishing and academic website development
Electronic presentations (PowerPoint, Camtasia, Adobe Spark)
Digital media (podcasting, streaming, formatting, copyright)
Online collaboration (wikis, blogs, discussion boards, web conferencing)
Course management
Interested students must submit an application. Academic Technology staff will invite applicants whose interests best align with the faculty proposals to interview. After all interviews have been conducted, the College will email applicants to let them know whether or not they've been invited to participate in the Program. Participants must agree to work 5-10 hours per week during either the fall or spring semester.
Applications for proposals will close after May 14th, 2023.
