The Lapham lab has the following analytical capabilities. Please contact Laura Lapham for more information about pricing:
Hydrocarbon and permanent gas concentration measurements
Gas chromatographs (Shimadzu and SRI companies) with flame ionization detectors and thermal conductivity detectors can measure methane and other light hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and nitrogen. Hydrogen is forthcoming.
Cavity Ring Down Spectrometer (Picarro, Inc) that simultaneously measures methane and carbon dioxide concentrations and stable carbon isotope ratios on gas samples. We also have adapters to be able to discreetly analyze samples collected elsewhere.
Anion concentration measurements
Ion chromatography (Dionex) with autosampler measures sulfate, chloride, nitrate, nitrite, and phosphate concentrations in both fresh- and sea-water.
Time-series collection of water samples to measure dissolved methane concentrations
OsmoSamplers are pumps that work via osmosis to collect water or sediment pore-water samples slowly over time. They can be used in remote locations, in possibly harsh conditions, to gain a time-series record of solutes. We typically measure dissolved methane, sulfate, and chloride. This application is project specific, so contact lab for more information.
