Salinity Index Calculator

As a case study to demonstrate the utility of our regression models, several indices were calculated to characterize the salinity that oysters experienced in their lifetime:
1) the number of consecutive days with salinity below a certain threshold for each station 2) the cumulative number of days with salinity below certain threshold for each station

How it works:

Choose a threshold in salinity. The number of consecutive days or cumulative number of days below this salinity threshold will be calculated.
Choose a timeline for birth to death of oysters
Choose the type of index (consecutive days or cumulative days) from the drop down menu
Choose the oyster bed station
Press the calculate button and wait for the result to show on the right

Schematic: Eastern oysters have a difficult choice to make when it comes to where they live. If they live in salty water, they grow well, but they're more likely to get disease. On the other hand, if they live in low salinity (not very salty) water, they're less likely to get sick but can die if the salinity drops very low. It's a tough decision for them!
