UNIV 101/301: a semester-long course designed to help new first-year (101) and transfer (301) students develop academic skills and learn about campus resources for college success
Teaching Assistants will co-teach, on a weekly basis, an UNIV course with a staff instructor during the fall and/or spring semester while also meeting on a monthly basis to reflect on the experience
Office for Academic & Pre-Professional Advising (OAPA): provides advising for exploratory, undecided, and pre-allied health students, and coordinates campus-wide advising operations such as Orientation and the Major Event
OAPA Peer Advisors will assist students with addressing common academic questions related to registration, course planning, campus advising and registration tools, as well as preparation for appointments with professional advisors
Academic Success Center (ASC): provides centralized support services to all undergraduate students at UMBC with a focus on Academic Policy, Academic Learning Resources, and Academic Advocacy
Academic Peer Advocates (APAs) will meet with 1st-year, 2nd-year, and new transfer students in 1-on-1 meetings to support and empower students to take advantage of campus resources and provide individual support in partnership with their Academic Advocate
College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT): offers degree pathways in engineering, computer science, and information systems.
COEIT Peer Navigator (CPNs) will assist with recruitment and student support initiatives in COEIT. CPNs will attend COEIT specific recruitment events on and off campus to provide tours and serve on panels. CPNs may also host office hours to assist current COEIT students in course registration.

All applicants will participate in an individual interview
Individual Interviews will take place virtually and will be held April 1st - 5th
Decision emails for all positions will be sent out by mid-April
Selection Criteria:
Must be a current undergraduate student who has completed at least one semester at UMBC
Must be in good judicial and academic standing (at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA)

Position Information: Teaching Assistants will co-teach, on a weekly basis, a UNIV101 (or 301) course with a staff instructor during the fall and/or spring.
Commitment and Compensation:

Summer Commitment:
Communicate with staff co-instructor to plan course details
Summer online training modules in preparation for Fall training
Fall Commitment:
Fall training (TBD - right before fall classes begin)
Weekly: attend and co-facilitate UNIV class and meet with staff co-instructor (~2.5 hours/week)
Monthly: attend UNIV TA meetings and submit peer journals
Compensation/Incentive:

$500 Retriever Dollar Deposit (awarded at the end of the semester)

$15.00/hour, up to 10 hours/week during each semester

Summer Commitment:
Communicate with supervisor to confirm Fall training and commitment/schedule
Fall Commitment:
Fall training (Dates TBD - right before fall classes begin)
Weekly: attend APA meeting hours for 5-7 hours per week
Monthly: attend APA meetings and submit peer reflections
Compensation/Incentive:
Opportunity to obtain APA micro-credential
$750 Stipend (awarded at the end of the semester)
COEIT Peer Navigators:
Spring and Summer 2024 Commitment:

Attend regularly scheduled CPN meetings
Weekly: Expected weekly commitment 5-8 hours
Compensation: $15/ Hour
