About the program

 SCALEUP Maryland is a four-month program, taught by seasoned entrepreneurs and business development professionals, designed to help executives create an executable Strategic Growth Plan.    Companies with revenues up to $10M across multiple industries will develop tools to reach targeted milestones.  Each year, two diverse cohorts up to 12 companies each are selected.

Who supports the program?

The program is supported by grant funding from Maryland Department of Commerce, T.Rowe Price Foundation and bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park 

How does the SCALEUP Maryland work?

bwtech@UMBC, the Research Park of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and the TCV Growth Partners designed and execute the program.     Every Tuesday,  the program covers a new topic,  based on the five key elements of scaling a company: sales and marketing, finance, operations, human capital, and leadership.   

Examples of Sessions:

• Leadership – Building Trust, Team Building, Communication, Mentoring

• Understanding and Managing Cash Flow – Cash, A/R, A/P, Inventory

• Sales & Marketing – Value Proposition, Positioning, Product/Market Fit

• Acquiring and Managing Resources – Purchasing and Supply Chain

The team has developed a curriculum that goes into depth on these aspects, aligning the coursework with the real world experiences of the participating companies, and developing strategies for change and growth.   Participants will receive a Certificate of completion upon submission of a confidential Strategic Plan.

How are companies selected?

Twice a year, applications are taken online, followed by a vetting process, to select the Cohort, for Spring or Fall.

What are the obligations of each participant?

Each participant has committed to attending the weekly sessions and completing the related work.

When is the next cohort forming?

Cohort 1:   concluded
Cohort 2:   concluded January 2022.
Cohort 3:   concluded May 2022
Cohort 4:   concluded December 2022 

Cohort 5:  Populated and starts February 2023
