My name is Morgan Casey. I'm a health reporter and Report for America corps member at CityView, a local online news organization based in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
My reporting at CityView covers health and the social determinants of health (non-health factors like transportation that influence a person's overall wellness). I've written stories about local solutions to the opioid crisis, the impacts of poor pedestrian infrastructure and the effects of federal policies on Cumberland County organizations.
I graduated in 2023 with a master's in investigative journalism from Arizona State University's Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I earned two bachelor's degrees in Media and Communications and French from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2022.
At ASU, I conducted team investigations into American lithium mining, Catholic health systems and Arizona's state dental board published in USA Today, The Arizona Republic and Cronkite News.
Most of my free time is spent running and keeping up with professional track and field. I stick to racing the mile and 5k, but my favorite events to follow are the 400mH, 1500m, 5k and 10k.
I watch a lot of time anime. If I had to give you my three all time favorites, they'd be "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End," "The Apothecary Diaries" and "Hunter x Hunter" (the 2011 version).
My music taste is all over the place. Megan Thee Stallion has been one of my top five artists in my Spotify Wrapped since 2019. Stray Kids, THÉA and Doechii are also heavy hitters on my playlists.
