John is Associate Vice President for Instructional Technology and New Media at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he is responsible for leading UMBC’s strategic efforts in teaching, learning and technology. As a learning analytics researcher and practitioner, John focuses on leveraging student use of digital technologies as a plausible proxy for engagement that can nudge responsibility for learning. Doing so also helps identify, support, and scale effective pedagogical practices that can help. As such, Fritz attempts to find, show and tell stories in data that can inspire the head and heart of students and faculty for change. John has a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy and Culture from UMBC.
Mike has been on the leading edge of analytics in the higher education industry, helping institutions leverage their data to improve student success. He has worked in the ed tech space since 2002, and in technology since 1992 and is currently the Executive Director for Data & Analysis with Arizona State University’s Enterprise Technology department. In addition to ASU, other higher ed experience includes eleven years with the University of Phoenix, two years with Blackboard, and three years with Blue Canary (a predictive analytics startup he founded in 2013). Mike has a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Lafayette College and an MBA from the University of Arizona.

Amy focus on faculty development and advancement uses a systems and analytics approach to facilitating instructional change to enhance student success. She serves as the Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning and Office of Sponsored Projects and Research at the University of Southern Indiana. Previously, Amy served as a Program Officer with the National Science Foundation in the Divisions of Undergraduate Education and Engineering Education and Centers, where she was inspired by the innovative and dedicated researchers and practitioners who advance STEM education and research. She also was a tenured faculty member at Florida State Uniersity in the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Amy earned degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Virginia and MIT.
Karen has about 20 years of experience in applied data science. She has been trained as an interdisciplinary educational researcher with a fellowship from the US Department of Education, leveraging her analytics skills to gain insights into large and complex educational data. Her learning analytics work focuses on modeling the fine-grained cognitive and affective process from multimodal data streams and, more recently, with data from Learning Management Systems in higher education settings. Her interest in LA data storytelling stems from her dual role as a data science educator and LA researcher. Her career passion is to empower students to become self-regulated, self-motivated, and flourishing lifelong learners through the data stories told with their own data or those from their communities. She received M.S. in statistics and Ph.D. in Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University.
