Set up processes at GSFC can take some time. In order to make sure that you are as close to ready-to-go as possible on day one, ESRA suggests that you reach out to your NASA sponsor at least a few weeks ahead of your start date and discuss your GSFC onboarding. You may consider asking them some of the following questions:
Where will my office be located, and what do I need to do to access it?
Where will my lab be located, and what do I need to do to access it?
Will I have a phone extension?
Will I have photocopier access? Printer access?
Will NASA provide me with a computer? Will it need to be ordered ahead of time?
What trainings and processes will I need to be aware of in order to access and use my computer?
Are there any keys I'll need?
Will I be able to get mail at GSFC? What is the process for this?
Departmental organizational chart with administration, staff and their assigned tasks?
How can I order basic office supplies and technology?
How will I understand my goals and scope of work?
Will I be paired with a peer mentor?
Who will I check in with at GSFC if I have questions?
