The Instructional Design Graduate Program has a more stringent Incomplete Policy than the policy set by the Graduate Studies Office. Incomplete grades are only awarded to students who have successfully completed the majority of the course and coursework (at least 75%) and if the student is unable to complete the requirements due to extreme circumstances beyond his/her control, such as deployed military service or a serious, documented illness. Grades of incomplete are given at the discretion of the course instructor. The student must negotiate with and receive the approval of the course instructor in order to receive a grade of incomplete.
A copy of the written agreement between the faculty member and the student which specifies the work to be completed and the deadline for completion must be kept on file in the program office.
The student receiving a grade of incomplete has until the start of the following semester or term to complete the coursework necessary to receive a letter grade.
The initiative in arranging for the removal of an “Incomplete” rests with the student. This regulation does not apply to thesis, dissertation, or capstone credits.
The grade for any course not completed by the agreed-upon deadline will be converted to the grade of Incomplete/F (IF). In the case that an IF grade is given for a Core (required course), the course must be taken and paid for again. The new grade then would count toward the student’s GPA, though the IF remains on his/her academic record.
