In addition to completing all of your certificate program requirements, you must declare your intent to graduate. Applying for graduation assumes that you intend to finish all of the university and major requirements as outlined by your certificate program by the term you select. You must declare your intent by following the instructions the Registrar's Office provides. If you do not apply to graduate, your Certificate will not be awarded.
NOTE: If you are pursuing both the M.Ed. and Certificate, you must apply to graduate for each program individually!
You are responsible for applying for the graduate certificate through Wiser. This procedure is detailed on the Registrar's website, (scroll down to under under "Graduate Students"). We encourage you to review these instructions carefully, and far in advance of your intended graduation date.
NOTE: There is only one step in applying for the graduate certificate, (As opposed to the MEd which requires two steps)
a. Click on the program you plan to graduate in and it will bring you to another screen.
b. From the drop-down menu select the term of your graduation. PLEASE NOTE: FALL=DECEMBER; SPRING=MAY and SUMMER=AUGUST. Click continue.
c. On the next screen, select submit and, if you are eligible, to apply you will receive a message that you have successfully applied for graduation. If you are not eligible to apply, it will let you know and you will have to rectify the problem.
d. Please print a copy of the confirmation for your records. (Print from a computer that will print the date on the form).
After you go through the process of applying through the Wiser, you should see "Applied" on your record. Once you have completed the course work, and Registrar has processed the application, (usually several weeks after the end of the semester) you will see that "Applied" will change to "Awarded". This means that your certificate is on record with the Registrar and you may add the certificate to your resume.
Deadlines are listed on the Registrar's website under "Announcements". These deadlines are strictly enforced - if you miss the deadline for your term, you may not receive your degree until the following semester.
If there are any outstanding issues, for example, incomplete grade, missing courses, outstanding balances on bills, etc. you will be ineligible for graduations untill any road blocks are addressed by you. The Registrar should notified you of any road blocks.
After the Registrar "Awards" the certificate - the ID Program Office will mail your Certificate to you via US post. Please ensure that your mailing address is up to date in WISER!
Note that Certificate students do not attend the graduate commencement ceremony.
