Travel

From Boston Logan Airport (BOS) to the Marriott Cambridge

Transportation from the Airport into the city is free on the T (Boston's subway system). To reach the Marriott, take the Silver Line to South Station; board the Red Line INBOUND (towards Alewife)  to the Kendall/MIT stop. The hotel is directly across the street from the station. The trip takes about 30 minutes. 

Amtrak (South Station, North Station, Back Bay)

Getting around Boston on the T and buses: If you plan to take public transit around Boston during the conference, the best option is to buy a Charlie Card at a ticket machine at the airport or any T station. This is a plastic card that you can load at the machine with stored value. A one-way trip on the T is $2.40, $1.70 on buses. Preloading money on a Charlie Card will save you from having to buy tickets individually in stations or on buses.

Transportation and Parking, List Visual Arts Center, MIT

Public Transportation

Take the MBTA Red Line to the Kendall/MIT station. The List is a short walk from the stop: follow Main Street west to Ames Street, turn left, and walk about one block to the cross walk. The List, housed in a building identifiable by its white gridded exterior, will be on your left. Signage is on the building.


Driving

To visit us by car, please plan your trip using 20 Ames Street, Cambridge MA, 02139 as your end destination. Visit Google Maps to plan a detailed route of travel.

Public parking in Kendall Square is limited, but metered spaces are close by and garage parking is available at 90 Broadway Street. Parking is also available on campus after business hours and on weekends; visit MIT Parking and Transportation to find out more.

Transportation to Harvard from MIT (Thursday)

Subway: MIT and Harvard are conveniently located just two stops from one another on the MBTA Red Line. The Kendall/MIT stop is a five minute walk from the List Center; you would then take the Red Line to Harvard OUTBOUND (toward Alewife). A one-way trip on the MBTA is $2.40.

Bus: There is also a bus in operation that takes you directly from the 77 Massachusetts Ave. entrance of MIT to Harvard, stopping at Bow Street (a 4 minute walk from the museums). The bus is the #1 bus, and a one-way trip costs $1.70.

Walk: If you would prefer to walk, there is a sidewalk path straight down Broadway Street that will take you to the Museums. Google Maps charts the trip as 1.8 miles, and about 40 minutes.

Transportation to the royall house from mit (Thursday)

Royall House and Slave Quarters: 15 George Street, Medford, MA

Take the Red Line subway from Kendall Square OUTBOUND (toward Alewife) to Davis Square. Then take Bus #96 toward Medford Square to the "Main Street @ George Street" stop, which is directly in front of the Royall House. Meet in the Visitor’s Center at the Royall House.

transportation to the Boston athenaeum (Thursday)

Boston Athenaeum: 10 1/2 Beacon Street

To travel to the Boston Athenaeum from Davis, Harvard, or Kendall Squares, take the MBTA Red Line INBOUND (toward Ashmont or Braintree) to Park Street. Follow the Tremont Street exit signs. Turn left out of the station to walk up Boston Common (toward the gold-domed State House). Turn right on Beacon Street and walk 1/2 a block to the large red doors of the Atheneum. 

The cost of the MBTA is $2.40.

Transportation to the MFA from the list center, mit (Friday)

MFA, Boston: 465 Huntington Ave.

Buses and the subway are the most convenient ways to travel between MIT and the MFA. The CT2 bus picks up at the intersection of Ames St. and Main St. at MIT and stops at the Huntington Ave. entrance of the MFA (the stop is referred to as "Ruggles St."). The trip takes about 25 minutes, and costs $1.70, but *please note*: this bus does not run very often.

To take the subway from MIT to the MFA requires a change of trains. Take the Red Line INBOUND (toward Ashmont or Braintree). At Park Street, transfer to the Green Line "E" (toward Heath Street) to the Museum of Fine Arts stop. This trip takes about 35 minutes, and costs $2.40.

Walking from MIT to the MFA is also an option. The trip is 2 miles, and takes about 45 minutes, but also offers a scenic tour of Boston.

Transportation to Providence (Saturday)

Brown University, List Art Center: 64 College Street, Providence

Charter buses have been arranged for the day trip to Providence. For those who signed up, the buses will leave from the Boston Marriott Cambridge (50 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02142) at 8:30am and drop off at the List Art Center, Brown University. The buses will then depart Providence, RI at 6:45 pm from the List Art Center, and drop attendees off at the hotel around 8:05pm. 

Parking in Providence (Saturday)

There are often street spots off Prospect Street near Cushing and Bowen Streets on College Hill. 


In addition, because it is also Family Weekend at Brown, the following is in place:


All Brown University parking lots on the main campus (except lots 57 and 71) will be open to Family Weekend guests starting at 5 p.m. on Friday through Sunday afternoon. The Power Street lot (both lower and upper levels) at the corner of Power and Thayer streets is the largest lot on campus. The top level is entered on Power Street and the bottom level is entered on the corner of Williams and Brook streets.


Please adhere to posted signs regarding allowable hours and parking limitations, and note that meters accept quarters or credit cards (via the Passport Parking mobile app).

On each day of the conference, coffee and pastries will be provided in mid-morning, and lunch in the afternoon, free of charge. On Thursday at 5:30, there will be a reception with hors d'oeuvres and wine at the Athenaeum; on Saturday at 5:30pm, a similar reception will be hosted by Brown University at the List Art Center.
