You must be trained to run this instrument. (Please request access via Corum or email respective instrument specialist.)
You must reserve time before using the equipment.
Do not attempt to adjust the thermocouple or hanging wire, as this WILL damage the instrument. If you break the instrument, your PI will pay for all repairs ($750+).
TGA pans should be cleaned at your own lab.
Account for cooling time in your reservation time.
Do not use above 700C without consulting
Maximum reserve time is 2 consecutive days in a week.
Check under "Note" tab to make sure that the correct purge gas is selected for your run.
Training occurs on 1st and 3rd full week of the month. Exact date and time will be decided amongst trainees and trainer.
Make sure correct reference pan is used.
You must run TGA on your sample to make sure that weight loss is less than 1.5%. Weight loss of 1.5% or greater will damage the DSC.
If you pop a pan or think you may have contaminated the cell, please email the group so we all know, and somebody can help you fix it.
Do not run baseline (T1) calibration. It will overwrite existing Tzero (T4) calibration.
Maximum constant cooling ramp: 10 °C/min to -50°C, 5 °C/min to -70°C.
Maximum temperature: 400°C
Flange temperature must be kept at around -80 °C before initiation of the experiment.
You must run a TGA on your sample and make sure that weight loss is less than 1.5%.
Maximum reserve time: 2 consecutive days in a week.
Use of excessive torque for tightening clamp screws can damage the stage and instrument. Check clamp specification under help topics if unsure.
Liquid nitrogen is needed. Running without liquid nitrogen can damage the instrument. If empty, bring LN tank to the first floor and fill it up on your PI's account.
